Saved GIFs on Telegram: where they are kept and how to find one you sent

“I definitely sent that one” — and then ten minutes of scrolling. There are only three places a GIF can be, and each of them opens in its own way.

“Saved GIFs” means three different places

The confusion starts with the phrase itself. “Saved GIFs” on Telegram is not one folder — there are three separate places, they work differently, and none of them knows about the others.

Getting back a GIF you sent: the username, no word

Type @gifer in the message field and add nothing after it. The strip opens straight away, and it starts with the GIFs you sent through the bot before; trending GIFs follow them so the screen doesn't end halfway down.

It works on every device you are signed in on: the strip belongs to your Telegram account, not to one phone. Nothing in it expires by date — it holds the GIFs you sent most recently.

Saved GIFs: Telegram's own panel

This one is a feature of Telegram itself, not of the bot. A GIF you liked in a conversation can be kept: tap it and choose to save it — on iPhone that is a long tap. After that it lives in Saved GIFs and opens from the GIF tab of the panel, next to stickers and emoji.

The difference is worth keeping in mind: only what you saved yourself ends up in that panel. The bot puts nothing into it and reads nothing out of it — it has its own strip, and one does not stand in for the other.

The chat you sent it to

If the GIF went into a particular conversation, it can be found right there: search inside that chat, or scroll back to the day the conversation happened. It is the slow way, and the only one that helps when the GIF was sent to you rather than by you.

From there it is easy to keep it in Saved GIFs, so that the next round of scrolling never happens.

Which place to open, and when

You sent it yourself and want to send it again — the username with no word.
You kept somebody else's GIF from a conversation — Telegram's Saved GIFs.
You remember the conversation but not the GIF — search inside that chat.

Does the strip of my GIFs expire?

There is no expiry date on it: it holds the GIFs you sent through @gifer most recently and waits as long as you need. Saved GIFs is Telegram's own panel, and Telegram decides what happens there.

Will I see my GIFs on another device?

Yes. The strip belongs to your Telegram account: sign in on a computer and you get what you had on the phone.

How do I keep somebody else's GIF?

Tap the GIF in the conversation and choose to save it — on iPhone that is a long tap. Telegram puts it into Saved GIFs. The bot takes no part in this: it remembers only what you sent through it.

How many GIFs does the bot remember?
